Our Reviews of the Best Portable RV Grills

Coleman has, over the many years, established itself as a brand that is synonymous with quality and durability. It is, therefore, no surprise that the Coleman Portable Grill LXE adheres to strict industry standards. As is the case with any established brand.

This is, by far, our favorite one. Our best friends have had this version for a very long time and we love using it when we're camping in their Class A rig. Unfortunately this won't fit in our smaller rig because our underneath storage bins are tiny.

I love the fact that you can roll it out when you need to with the built in stand and wheels. That?s right folks, this is one RV grill that is built to just trolley around just about anywhere you want to take it.

The stand is especially useful so that you can set it up on the stand and grill downwind from the RV campsite nor do you have to put it on the picnic table, if your campsite even has one.

The attached stand is extremely convenient to use and is perhaps one of the highlights of the product. There is, however, a flip side to the coin here. The stand is anything but light. This increases the overall weight of the grill.

Once you actually manage to unload the stand, the work is considerably reduced. You can put the wheels to good use and roll the grill about. Be warned though that moving the grill from one place to another is quite a noisy affair and you sure to attract a lot of stares when you push the grill about.

Coming to the burners of the grill, unlike most other grills, the Coleman Road Trip Propane Portable Grill LXE has two burners. In my opinion, this is actually a pretty neat option for a variety of options. First of all, two burners ensure that the fuel efficiency of the product would be higher. Secondly, since you can turn off a burner it is easy to cook food in small amounts. Just the perfect thing for smaller meals.

On the performance front, the product performs consistently. The grilling surface maintained the temperature consistently and the meat I grilled on the grill was evenly done. The temperature also could be regulated easily and so beef steaks of varying texture could be easily made one after another. Add to that the interchangeable cook tops and you know that you have a winner in your hand.

Pros

  • Stand for rolling the grill about
  • Consistent temperature regulation
  • Porcelain coated surface

Cons

  • Heavy Stand

Final Verdict

Apart from the bare essentials, the product also packs in a few neat features like the Instastart ignition for lighting up the grill without a match and the PerfectFlow technology. Lastly, the product is extremely easy to clean courtesy its porcelain coated surfaces. Overall, a solid, recommendable product.

Coming to performance, the Weber RV grill has around 280 square inches of cooking space which provides consistent temperatures for grilling. The cooking grates have a porcelain-enameled covering which makes cleaning a breezy job. There are also a number of handy features like the electronic ignition which helps you to cook. Another impressive feature is the aluminum hood which can be used to roast chickens and turkeys. Overall, one of the best RV outdoor grills hands down.

The design of the product is impressive. The way the product has been designed obviously shows how minutely Weber considers customer satisfaction. For instance, the handles and the knobs are big enough for someone with big hands to get a good grip.

Now, the Q2200 is absolutely perfect for you if you wish to carry it around in an RV on your road trips. The petite size of the product along with the fact that it does not need to be setup at all is a welcome relief.

The Weber Q2200 is not a radically new product per se. It is an updated version of the very popular Q220. However, the product does not actually feel like an upgrade and this is where I believe Weber?s innovation lies. It is without any doubts that I can ascribe that this is one of the best RV grills on the market.

Pros

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Split grates help cook better
  • Fuel efficient

Cons

  • Slow roasting is a problem because the temperature doesn?t fluctuate much
  • The plastic parts are not durable

Final Verdict

No product is perfect. Given how varied demands people may harbor when grilling or roasting, it is impossible to satisfy everyone. For instance, if you use a lot of utensils together, this grill won?t suffice. But as far as most users go, the Weber Q2200 is one of the best RV grills in the market.

The grilling device looks absolutely stunning and draws second looks from almost everyone passing the RV site. Given that grills are not particularly known for their looks, this is an added bonus.

However, all is not perfect for this device. The drip pan is very poorly designed and the angle renders it almost useless. Also, heat distribution is a serious problem and the device needs a considerable pre-heat time for best results.

In most portable grills, the thermometer is the most compromised feature. The CGG-220 doesn?t have this problem though as it measures out the temperature quite accurately. This prevents things from being undercooked.

The ignition system of the grill works without a hitch and it starts off pretty easily. What surprised me, however, was the thermometer.

Liquid propane grills are all the rage nowadays for a variety of reasons. For starters, they are easier to operate, can be used by almost anyone and can be easily carried around. Like a lot of contemporary grills, the Cuisinart CGG-220 uses the smaller LP gas canister instead of the larger variant.

If you are searching for the best portable grill for RV, you have to take a look at the Cuisinart CGG-220. I had chanced upon this product quite by accident when I was searching for a replacement of my portable grill. We have a coffee maker by them, but hadn?t used any of their grills before. The grill is versatile and you can easily carry it around in your RV.

Pros

  • Ignition system

  • Attractive exterior
  • Single burner

Cons

  • Drip Pan
  • Heat Distribution

Final Verdict

As you can well understand, the CGG-220 has its share of flaws. However, if you are on the look for a grill that can cook better than most RV propane grills, this is a product you might want to have a look at.

Admittedly, this seems to be a bit overkill of a grill. But it was fun to research and if you have a serious grill master, then this might be worth looking at.

The heat output of the grill is 14,000 BTU, thus making it one of the hottest products on this list (like quite literally). The device weighs only 20 pounds and therefore, can be easily carried around. In fact, I can?t quite remember the last time I saw a product that was so light and yet so powerful.

The cooking area of the grill is around 155 square inches. You might think that the cooking area might be a problem for you if you are cooking for a larger crowd. But what the Solaire compromizes on size, it more than makes up for it with its performance. Another aspect that I couldn?t help but admire was the stainless steel construction of the product.

Most other portable grills compromise on the build quality of the product to make them portable and to reduce costs. However, the Solaire offering weighs very less and at the same time has a build quality comparable to premium high-end grills.

Pros

  • Variable mounting options
  • Can run alternatively on natural gas
  • Stainless steel construction
  • Infrared Power

Cons

  • Pretty Pricey
  • Small Grilling Space

Final Verdict

This is by far the only portable grill that I have seen that can be converted to run on natural gas. This feature particularly makes the Solaire perfect to be used both indoors and outdoors. In fact, given that there?s not really a lot of space in an RV, the small size of the product is a boon in disguise. Yes, the cooking space is small, but with that kind of power, you may be looking at the best RV grill in this segment right now.

This is the grill we have. We love the rolling grill, but our rig is just too small for it so we went with this one.

Coleman has always been an industry leader when it came to barbecue grills, constantly churning out products which can all be considered the best grills in their segments. It is for this very reason that I had extremely high hopes from the Coleman NXT Lite.

The NXT Lite is a nifty little product that takes up so little space that you are left wondering whether it actually cuts down on features to accommodate this. The device sports a red color exterior which looks attractive. Without meandering on the exterior, let me come straight to the performance factor.

There are a few neat factors that make operating the product an absolute delight. For instance, the InstaStart push-button key. The key instantly lights up the grill without fail. Of all the times I have used this, I have not seen the flame flaring up. This is certainly an attractive bonus because it is rare to find an RV grill that perfects this feature.

The burners work consistently and the uniform heat distribution allowed me to cook easily. Here, however, I would like to note that the 8500 BTUs of power that the grill gives out is far less than your average RV grill. In spite of this, the PerfectFlow feature ably regulates the heat and the fuel. Cooking in cold places like hill tops is not a problem then. Lastly, and most importantly the enamel coating ensures that the grill can be easily cleaned.

Pros

  • InstaStart button
  • Durable and compact size
  • Oil control tray is detachable
  • Latch for transport

Cons

  • Nothing really

Final Verdict

Sometimes, there are products which are so perfect that you don?t really need to go on about how awesome they are. You just end up giving them a thumb- up and recommending them. The Coleman NXT Lite is undoubtedly one of the best RV grills in the market if you're looking for a small grill for two people and small footprint for storing in your RV.

RV Grill Buying Guide

Types of Grills

Trying to choose the right kind of grill for your RV can be a little difficult at times. However, finally finding the right one is a great feeling. The two types of grills that campers and RV travelers usually use are propane and charcoal.

Propane

Gas grills that work with propane tend to be more beneficial because using this type of fuel is cheaper. Propane grills keep the flavors of the food and they also cook faster than grills powered by charcoal. There are many lightweight and portable propane grills that are very exceptional.

Propane Grilling Tips

  1. While placing the food on the grill, make sure to give plenty of space. This will ensure that the heat rises and burns the sides of the food, making it evenly cooked.
  2. It’s ideal to cook on medium flame. If you use a high flame, stay close and turn it off before the food gets burnt.
  3. Preheating with the lid closed will actually allow your food to cook well.
  4. Keeping your grill clean can actually influence your cooking and make the food taste better.

Charcoal

Charcoal grills burn with extremely high temperatures. The biggest advantage of charcoal grills is that they are less expensive and are more portable. They also give that smoky flavor to your food.

Charcoal Grilling Tips

  1. Before you start grilling, you must be equipped with the right tools. Get all the necessary grilling tools like tongs, spatulas, a grill brush and more.
  2. Studying your grill is important. Learn its functions and capabilities.
  3. Keep the grill closed while cooking to keep the flavors strong.
  4. Choosing the right amount of charcoal is key to a great charcoal grilling experience.

Cleaning Tips

Cleaning is the most tiring part. But don’t worry, as this article has some effective tips that will help you keep your RV grill clean.

  1. If your grill is stainless steel, you can use a simple steel cleaner and wipe it with a microfiber cloth.
  2. Heat your grill for a few minutes to get rid of the residue that is stuck from previous uses. Then use a stainless-steel brush to scrape it off the grill.
  3. In case your grill is detachable, take it out and scrub it well to ensure every part is clean.
  4. Securing it with a good cover will keep it clean from dust and other unwanted things brought about by the outdoors. Vented covers are a great choice as well because you can open and close them.

Conclusion

Given how saturated the segment is right now, it is very difficult to choose the best RV grill merely on conjecture and paper analysis. Your best bet would be to try out the grill you wish to invest in.

This would help you identify the product you are comfortable using and thus help you make an informed choice. After all, given that the product is strictly something for personal use, you should obviously have the last say. Happy grilling folks!
